NEW DELHI: The Government e-Market (GeM) portal with increased buying activities by various ministries and department has surpassed Rs 4 lakh crore in procurement of goods and services in the current fiscal year.

GeM CEO P K Singh said, “As of March 28, the procurement has crossed Rs 4 lakh crore. It is historic.”

GeM has facilitated online purchases for central government entities, with the procurement value reaching Rs 1.06 lakh crore in 2021-22 and crossing Rs 2 lakh crore in the previous financial year.

The procurement of services has surged from Rs 66,000 crore to Rs 2.05 lakh crore this fiscal, while goods worth Rs 1.95 lakh crore have been purchased through the platform.

GeM, launched in 2016, has a vast network of over 63,000 government buyer organizations and more than 62 lakh sellers, offering a diverse range of products and services.

Various government bodies, including ministries, public sector units, and state governments, utilize the portal for transactions.

GeM caters to a wide array of products, from office stationery to vehicles, with major categories like automobiles, computers, and office furniture.

Additionally, the portal lists services such as transportation, logistics, waste management, webcasting, and analytics. GeM ranks as the third-largest platform globally, following South Korea’s KONEPS and Singapore’s GeBIZ.

States and Union Territories like Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Delhi have placed substantial procurement orders in the ongoing fiscal year.
